The Portuguese Society of Ecology (SPECO) was at the genesis of the implementation of this network of sites and is currently responsible for the dissemination and dissemination of the LTER Portugal project.
THE IMPORTANCE OF THE LTER-PORTUGAL NETWORK ON A GLOBAL SCALE
Portugal is known for its multi-diverse landscape and contains a wide variety of terrestrial, marine and coastal habitats. This characteristic is justified because it is located in the transition zone between the Atlantic and Mediterranean bioclimatic domains and was promoted by the triad: geology, climate and Man.
The spatial heterogeneity of biotic agents played a significant role in inducing changes in natural ecosystems and shaping the current landscape.
Human perceptions of ecosystem services in these modified landscapes:
-
They affect the structure and function of ecosystems;
-
They help to understand sustainability.

A ROADMAP TO SUCCESS
PLATAFORMS LTsER
All LTER sites in Portugal are now LTsER Platforms, as they integrate, in addition to ecological research, the entire socio-ecological system of the place where they are inserted.
LTsER's main areas of interest are: :
-
the drivers of environmental change;
-
the adaptability of socio-ecological systems;
-
thresholds for ecosystem resilience;
-
security of delivery of goods and services;
-
interfaces between research, policy and technology.
OUR RESEARCHERS
The members of the LTER networks are scientists involved in ecological and socio-economic research established in specific locations.
They have specialised knowledge in obtaining, managing and analysing environmental data.
Together they are responsible for creating and maintaining a large number of data.
